The institute was established in 1921 and, it does the following duties since that year;

• Laboratory diagnosis of local and general animal diseases,

• Researches to eradicate animal diseases and to develop animal breeding,

• Production of vaccine, sera and biologic substances,

• Training of Veterinary Surgeons, specialists and farmers.

The structure of Institute was fixed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Republic of Turkey. 

According to that fixation, our institute consists of 6 Branch Chiefs and 17 laboratories.
