Sytemic necropsy is carried out on corpses in an autopsy room with the standart equipment and appropriate tissue materials are taken, according
to story and macroscopic findings in the necropsy.
In tissue samples suspected of disease,
histopathological examinations are conducted for the purpose of
diagnosis of bacterial, viral, parasitic, toxic, metabolic and
neoplasial dieseases. For this purpose, cross sections from tissue
samples fixed in formol and blocked in parafin are stained with
haemotoxylene-eozyne.
If
necessary, detailed studies are done in tissue cross sections with
modified staining techniques (Zhiehl Nelson, Levaditi, Methyl-green
pyronin, Gram, McYavelli, Stamp, etc) in the light of information
provided by microscopic examination.
In the cases which histopathological findings
are detected, a further examination of immunopatholohical tests are
conducted for confirmation of etiology. For this purpose, cross sections
of tissues are stained with indirect immunoperoxidase technique (streptavidin-biotin
immunoperoxidase). By this technique;
-
Bacterial diseases (Listeria monocytogenesis,
Haemophylus somunus, Brucella melitensis ..etc)
-
Viral diseases (rinderpest, PPR, IBR,
Pestivirus infections, BVD, Border disease and Rabies)
-
Parasitic Diseases (Neospora caninum,
Toxoplasma gondii etc)
-
Prion diseases (Bovine
Spongyform
Encephalopaty-BSE, Scrapi ) can be diagnosed.
Our
laboratory acts as referance laboratory in the project titled “National
BSE Monitoring Project” coordinated by the
Ministry of Agriculture. In this project, routin diagnostic work of
TES’s are carried out by the means of histopathologic and
immunopathologic methods, parallel to the OIE standarts. Moreover, in
the animals that are above 30 months of age and do not show any clinical
finding, histopathologic and immunopathologic examinations of brain
samples are conducted for BSE in our laboratory. In addition,
independent or collaborative studies with other science departments are
done on the pathology of animal diseases.
In
our laboratory, being the central veterinary research institute, we give
training to the personnel of other seven research institutes located in
different regions of Turkey and to other veterinarians in the field.
Also, some educational materials both written and imaged are prepared
for our colleques.
