The Diagnostic Lab of Rabies

The methods e.g. Seller’s, Fluorescence Antibody Technique and Mice Inoculation tests suggested by World Health Organisation and Office International des Epizooties are used in the diagnosis of suspicious specimens. Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) method is also used in our Lab.

In the indirect diagnosis of Rabies, Rapid Fluorescence Focus Inhibition Test ((RFFIT) is used.

Immunity, sterility and apathogenity tests of vaccines imported to Turkey are performed in our Lab.

Staff working in the other diagnostic Laboratories for Rabies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs are trained by our Lab specialists.

Territorial and regional research programs for Rabies are carried out. The projects, “Dog Population Density and Structure” and “Oral vaccination of Dogs against Rabies” are supported by World Health Organisation.

Brains of slaughtered cattle older than 30 months of age are tested by ELISA in our lab in compliance with “National BSE Monitoring Project being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
