In
vaccine production laboratory, different primary cell cultures needed
for quality control and studies of viral diagnostic laboratory are
prepared. The primary cell cultures and cell line cultures produced are
stored in liquid nitrogen or deep freezer (-70 C) in a cell bank. In
addition, newly purchased serum, media, disposable and other glass
material are controlled and tested in the terms of appropriateness of
cell culture.
THE VACCINES PRODUCED IN VIRAL PRODUCTION LABORATORY: Annual vaccine
production capacity of the laboratory is 20,000,000 doses.
Rinderpest Vaccine: Rinderpest vaccine prepared with Kabete O strain in primary calf kidney cell cultures is a live, attenueated and
lyophlised vaccine. For the emergency cases, 5 million doses of
rinderpest vaccine are being stored in the vaccine bank.
Blue Tongue Vaccine: Monovalent Blue Tongue Vaccine prepared in primary
lamb kidney cell cultures is a live, attenueated and lyophlised vaccine. When the attenuation studies finish, bivalan and the production of trivalan blue tongue vaccine is planned.
In addition, we have co-operated with CIRAD/EMVT laboratory and
transferred
the
technology about PPR vaccine production. In 2002, the
Nigeria 75/1 master seed strain will be produced and vaccine production
will be started in a short time.
The
projects of “Thermostable rinderpest vaccine production in Vero cells”
and “Attenuatian studies of Blue tongue virus isolates” are being continued
and the project titled “ Seroprevalence of Peste Des Petits Ruminants” has recently been completed.
