In the Virology Diagnostic Laboratory, the diagnosis of viral diseases seen in Turkey is done according to the OIE (OIE Manual OF Standarts 2000).

Agent isolation in cell cultures from suspected materials and detection of viral antigens are conducted.

The necessary  preperations to get started on PCR have been completed and diagnostic studies on this issue have started.

The research related to monoclonal antibody production is being continued.

As being the reference laboratory in Turkey, Virological Diagnostic laboratory has conducted collaborative studies with some other international organisations (IAEA, FAO, GTZ) and institutes (IAH- Pirbright, ID-DLO-Holland, Gluck Center-USA) and this cooperation is still going on.

After the outbreak of rinderpest in 1991,  the projects in collaboration with IAEA and FAO are in the final stage. Our laboratory follows  a program described by OIE (OIE pathway) as a member of Global RP Eradication Program.
